John and Mary Fowler Named Chairs of Heading Home Fundraising Event
Boston (Jan. 28, 2010) Heading Home announced today that John and Mary Fowler will co-chair this year’s annual fundraiser, “The Heading Home Housewarming.” The event will be held at on May 6, 2010 at International Place in Boston.
John Fowler, Executive Managing Director and Operating Committee Member for Holliday Fenoglio Fowler, L.P. (HFF), where he specializes in major commercial real estate financing, equity and sales transactions and his wife Mary will oversee the Heading Home fundraising effort in support of the organization’s mission to provide safe housing and effective support services in an effort to end homelessness in the Greater Boston area.
The Heading Home Housewarming event will be brought to life with the creation of virtual room vignettes to symbolize different rooms inside a home—a child’s bedroom, the kitchen, a family room, for example. These room environments serve as a gift registry and attendees will have the opportunity to donate specific items from the registry to help Heading Home clients create their own home.
John Fowler said, “Those of us in the real estate community understand the importance of providing the homeless with a combination of shelter and services so that they can ultimately lead independent lives. Mary Fowler said, “The current economic climate has created a tremendously difficult time for homeless families and individuals and for the organizations that support them. John and I are committed to making the Heading Home Housewarming a success so that we all can make a difference in the lives of the homeless.”
In addition to the “housewarming” theme, the event will feature Boston’s finest chefs and restaurants for a culinary celebration, each presenting a unique tasting station throughout the venue.
Mass Mouth Presents: Updated Folk Tales for Young and Old in support of Heading Home
On February 17th at 10am and 2pm the Mass Mouth storytelling organization held two story slams at Toscanini's in Central Square in support of Heading Home and Partners in Health. The two shows were hosted by Stu Mendleson and consisted of short shorts ( 3 minute tales) geared toward 3 years and up to 6 year olds and 5 minute tales geared towards ages 6 and up.
The $7 admission price included a ticket for one ice cream and a $3 donation to Heading Home. Heading Home is based in Cambridge and been assisting homeless families and individuals since 1974.
What is a story slam? Award winning storytellers from massmouth.com took turns at the mic to tell their best 3 to 5 minute updated folk tale. A panel of judges made up of children's librarians and elementary aged students will graded the tellers, just as in a poetry or story slam for adults. Every story is judged on it's form and how well it was told. Toscanini's is located at 899 Main Street Central Square, Cambridge MA.
